This print is signed at middle-left "Gototei Kunisada ga" ('drawn by Gototei Kunisada'), a name used by the artist from ca. 1809–1842, and again in 1845, which references his family's ownership of a ferry service: "Gototei" literally means "pavilion of the fifth ferry." The circular kiwame seal of the censor is visible at lower-right, accompanied by the mark of publisher Ōmiya Heihachi, who published many actor prints by Kunisada, especially in the 1820s. The actor and his role are identified by the text at upper-left. The play from which this scene is taken has been determined via the records of the Waseda University Theatre Museum, Tokyo, which holds another impression of this panel (acc. no. 100-2512). The actor Iwai Hanshirō VI held the name of Iwai Kumesaburō II from ca. 1812–1832.
