Description:
Silver tablespoon with an elliptical bowl and a creased rounded drop; straight hemispherical shaft tapered to upturned rounded-end handle; and a short midrib on front of handle. The spoon is marked "JH" in script in square twice on back of handle possibly for John Heath (c.1721-c.1806), and engraved with the Initials "M / W*M" in block letters on the back of the handle. Heath became a freeman in New Yok in 1761, and in 1763, advertised in the "New York Mercury" as a "goldsmith, in Wall-street." This is not one of the marks known to have been used by John Heath.
