Description:
Round, pedestal-based tea table, supported on three cabriole legs ornamented with ball-and-claw feet and acanthus leaf carving. The shaft is composed of a flattened ball beneath a fluted column and a bird-cage unit of four turned balusters between two small boards that permit the round top with carved, scalloped molding to rotate and to flip upright when the table is stored. The table is significant for its high quality and the presence of the primary options in ornamenting a table of this sort: scalloped edge, fluted shaft, and carved legs. The table was once fitted with casters. The table descended in the Degan family and was purchased by the Hursts from Willoughby Farr, Edgewater, New Jersey, in 1933.
