Description:
Wrought iron rushlight holder attached to a wooden stake. The hinged mechanism held a lighted rush or splint. The top hook could have held a splint, or may have been used to steady the lighting device when not in use. It has a conical, hollow base to hold a wooden stick; and the hole in the side would have been used to fasten the stick to the iron by means of a nail. The spring-loaded hinge connects the lever to the rush light tip; and a C-curved piece of metal extends from the main flange.
