Harbor Scene with numerous docks

Label Text:
Early in Robert Henri's career, he painted the view from his studio on East 58th Street, overlooking the East River. In one of these works, "On the East River" (1900-1902), he not only rendered the atmospheric fog and the steam of the tugboat, but he brought the vibrant harbor to life while emphasizing the commercial and, at times, seamy aspect of the city.
