Description:
Pair of child's Madeira boots which descended in the Rufus King family. A note with the boots reads "from/Madeira / March 1885 / from Royalty, heirs / settled in Augusta, Maine." These boots were typical objects purchased by tourists after about 1850. The boots feature a turned down boot cuff and a flat sole; and a seam dividing the top and bottom halves of the upper, a CB seam on top half, and a side seam on the bottom half. Rufus King (life dates) was the uncle of Maine schoolgirl Eliza Southgate (life dates).
