Text provided by the Photographic Resource Center at the time of the touring exhibition "New Works by Ten Massachusetts Photographers" in 1982: "Eugene Richards is a photojournalist whose intimate portraits are made in his subject's homes and in the institutional enviornments of a hospice, hospital and a prison from Massachusetts to Ohio. His personal documentary style is evident in these selections from more extensive photo-essays. Richards is author of "Few Comforts or Surprises: The Arkansas Delta", "Dorchester Days", and the forthcoming books, "The Knife and Gun Club" and "New Life" (with Dorothea Lynch). He has recieved a Massachusetts Artists Fellowship in Photography, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fellowship Award. Richards is an Associate memer of Magnum Photos, Inc."
