Description:
man seated holding a gun in his left hand and wearing cloth cover over mouth and nose; The Dallas Morning-News Tuesday June 5, 1979

Label Text:
This is one of a suite of 10 individually framed images composing "Guerilla Piece, June 4, 5, 1979". Sarah Charlesworth's series Modern History uses unmanipulated found images and text to expose how the media (and particularly newspapers) can subtly shape our view of the world through such seemingly benign choices as image size, placement, and captioning. Guerrilla Piece, June 4, 5, 1979 directly reproduces the masthead, caption, and image of a wounded Nicaraguan Sandinista Guerrilla as they appeared in ten different newspaper s over the course of two days.
