Description:
Chinese export porcelain cup with "C" shaped handle in green, brown, black, blue, and iron red overglaze enamels and gilding. The side has a linked double shield with coat of arms, ? impaling Fairholm, in the center. Coat of arms partially unidentified. The Fairholm family lived at Chapel-on-Leader in Berwickshire; William Fairholm (d. 1805) had four sons and a daughter, Elizabeth who married Lord James Murray. The rim has an iron-red edged gilt double chain border; there are traces of gilding at edge.
