Description:
Two patterned woman's shoes with polychrome brocaded wool uppers in orange, pink, green, blue and white, edged with green wool binding, and leather soles. The interior paper label reads: "John Ho [illegible] / Cheapside near West" and "5/6" written in ink on both shoes. John Hose (c.1699-1769) was the younger brother of another London shoemaker, William Hose, who worked at the sign of the boot on Lombard Street in the City of London. William's business continued on with John's son and grandson (both named Thomas), who would later work out of William's Lombard Steet establishment.
