The text on the sign at lower-right reads "The New Yoshiwara, Edo Machi 1-..." [Shin yoshiwara edo machi jū -...], the partial address of the pleasure house Tamaya. Other impressions of this design exist but with the title in the blue cartouche changed identifying the courtesan as "Kiyokawa of the Tamaya." It is unclear which is the earlier version.
