Description:
Needlework sampler done in silk embroidery on a plain linen ground, which has three rows of the alphabet in capital letters over the inscription, "Orra Harve / y Wrought / This 1786." Orra Harvey (1774-1862) was the daugher of Simeon Harvey (b.1743) and Mary Arms Harvey (1747-1785) of Deerfield, and married Elijah Russell (1765-1811) of Deerfield in 1803. Orra's sister Emelia Harvey (1769-1841) married Asa Stebbins (1767-1844) of Deerfield (see HD 86.086 -HD 86.087 for two samplers made by Emeilia's daughters, which came from the same descendent). This unfinished sampler is stiched in both the cross stitch and herring-bone stitch.
