Description:
nude female torso leaning sideways; nude; woman

Label Text:
Lynes is best known for his male nudes, although he also produced portraiture, fashion, and dance photography. This image of a woman’s torso displays the stark lighting, deep shadows, and extreme cropping that modernist photographers often used to emphasize the abstract nature of the nude human body.
