Label Text:
A plaster copy of the Lion of Lucerne, mounted in a thin gold oval, forming a brooch, said to have been owned and worn by Martha Washington. (Martha Washington died in 1802; the Lion of Lucerne was erected in 1822.) The whole mounted in a hand carved wooden frame. Marked in ink From E. Custis - Dr. Hurd Collection - Abington, Va. Brooch 1 3/4" x 1 9/16". Cat. 11/11/1935.
