Description:
Silver tablespoon with a fiddle-end handle, rounded shoulders and pointed oval bowl, which is marked "B.S. FARRINGTON" for Billings Stowell Farrington (b.1811), and engraved with the initials "EFR' on the handle. Born in Wales, Massachusetts, Billings apprenticed to William Beecher in Southbridge, Massachusetts, and by 1845 moved to Woonsocket, RI, where he was listed as B. S. Fariington, watchmaker, silversmith, and jeweler, Dealer in gold and silver watches, Jewelry, and Fancy Goods. Also, manufacturer of Spectacles of every description,at No. 12 Main Street. in "A Numbering of the Inhabitants : together with Statistical and Other Information, relative to Woonsocket, R.I." (1846).
