Description: One of two Chinese export porcelain inverted baluster-shaped vases with flared bases, which the original data card stated were imported by Cie de Indes (French East India Company). These vases, which were bought by the Flynts in Paris in 1960, are decorated in white, yellow, blue, rose, iron red, brown, green, and turquoise. However, during the China Trade Symposium here in Sept 2006, Tish Roberts noted that the border design and palette was reminescent of Pronk decoration and wondered if they were made for the Dutch market. There are blue underglaze enamel lines around the top and bottom of the rim, over an iron red spearhead border. There are two blue and white pointed bands with white chevrons above and below the center iron-red, quatre-foil cartouches with white bird of prey on a tree branch, and poppies, floral sprays, and insects filling in the sides. There is a rose crest pointed band over two blue underglaze enamel bands around the foot. These were done by two different artisans as the style is not an exact match. Sotheby's London sold three similar vases in 2003.
