Description:
Child's blue and white linen loose dress or gown decorated with the style of floral embroidery characteristic of early 20th-century needlework revival groups such as the Deerfield Society of Blue and White Needlework of Deerfield. The gown, which was probably made for a 4 or 5 year old child, is embroidered in two shades of indigo-dyed linen thread on linen with thirteen large and fourteen smaller floral sprays, each different and carefully spaced, done in the New England laid, stem, seed and French knot stitches. While the linen garment itself may date to the 18th century, the embroidery may be later.
