Description:
Woman's summer bonnet made from bands of brown and off-white braided straw stitched together. Straw was a lightweight material for bonnets worn in warmer weather. Women's hats and bonnets during the 1870s and 1880s were light in scale, and made to sit towards the back of the wearer's head, exposing the face and front of the hair. This style of bonnet was sometimes referred to as a scoop bonnet.
