This print is signed at lower-right "Toyokuni ga" ('drawn by Toyokuni'), alongside the circular kiwame seal of the censor and a publisher's seal: the kanji "shige" beneath a single-peaked mountain, which resembles that of Jōshūya Jūzō; however, the publisher is not known to have worked with Toyokuni II, though he did collaborate with both Kunisada (Toyokuni III) and Toyokuni I. The title of the print and the series is at top-right within the red toshidama cartouche.
This may be a later re-issue or even inauthentic. It is also possible that it is by Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III), given that the it was not until ca. 1850 that Bandō Shūkan I originated this role and that Jōshūya Jūzō publsihed several series by Kunisada. However, following 1842, the kiwame seal is not found alone. The cartouche at upper-right is also not consistent with other designs (especially the thick black border, which is typically yellow). The style of signature would also be a rarity for Kunisada, though similar examples do exist.
