Label Text:
At middle-left this print is signed "Shun'ei ga" ('drawn by Shun'ei') and bears the circular kiwame seal of the censor. The seal of publisher Nishimuraya Yohachi is visible at lower-right. While this print bears no further marks, the actor pictured is Nakamura Noshio II, indicated by his crest or 'mon,' which is partially visible in the folds of his kimono near his right elbow. Nakamura Noshio II was a renowned actor of female roles ('onnagata'), especially young female roles ('wakaonnagata' or 'musumegata').

This print has been dated based on the presence of the single kiwame seal and records related to Nakamura Noshio II, who held the name until 1800.
