World War I; postcard; soldiers; wounded; Vosges Mountains

Label Text:
The postcard was sent to George Bellows at the National Academy of Painting, W. 57th Street, New York City Etats Unis by Waldo Peirce. Sometime on or after 1914, Peirce joined the American Field Service, a volunteer ambulance corps that served the French battlefields. This postcard was mailed in January of 1916. Written under the drawing is "Wounded 'sitters' in the Vosges - on mule back' and "wish you merry Xmas etc. but nothing doing in that line here--been getting hell lately WP"
