Description:
This print was acquired because it is the design source for the creamware tea canister, HD 2015.30. Two separate pages. Fab. XLVIII. Also pp. 101-102, "The Gardener and the Hog." from Fables by the Late Mr. Gay, in Two Volumes. London: Printed for C. Hitch, L. Hawes, and J. and R. Tonson, et al. 1757. The engraved copperplate print depicts the scene of the Gardener and the Hog. The rectangular image is set in a terraced garden setting with trees and an oblisk in the background, a balustrade staircase and vase, and decorative patterned foreground of grass. The gardener is raising his shovel above his head to hit the hog which is biting his leg. The other page 101 and 102 is printed front and back with a portion of the fable, Fable XLVIII. The Gardener and the Hog. This print is in good condition with mild age toning.
