The title of the print, "Uki-e Shiba Takanawa no zu," is written vertically descending from the top right margin. Beneath that is the artist's signature, which reads "Sekkyō ga," or "Drawn by Sekkyō." The final portion of the inscription is the address and name of the publisher, which reads: "Nakabashi Hirokōji, Yamadaya bira," identifying the publisher as Yamadaya Shōbei, of the firm Kinkyōdō, located at Kyōbashi Nakabashi Hirokōji until 1858. After 1851, however, the publisher changed his name to Yamadaya Shōjirō.
Sawa Sekkyō was a pupil of Tsutsumi Tōrin, a painter of lanterns and ema plaques. Sekkyō was not prolific, producing mostly landscapes, especially uki-e, including an untitled set of views of Edo, published in the late 1810s, from which this print is most likely taken. He is also known for his sumizuri-e kachō-ga.
