Description:
ca. late 19th or early 20th century plaster cast of a marble original dating to the Hellenistic Period or the Roman Republican Period, ca. 50-52 BCE. Dionysos, god of wine and revelry, visits Ikarios, a farmer. Dionysos is accompanied by satyrs and maenads. The original marble relief after which this cast is made is located at the National Museum in Naples, Italy; an ancient copy dating to approximately the same time is located at the British Museum in London, England.
