Description:
"Compendium of the Bible" by Rodolphus Dickinson (1786-1862), printed in Deerfield in 1816. An 1805 Harvard graduate, Rodolphus Dickinson of Deerfield enjoyed careers as both a lawyer and minister, but scholarship and civic involvement were his real loves. His "Compendium of the Bible" published in Deerfield in six editions between 1814 and 1817 was a kind of theological reader designed for ready use and inspiration at a time when the Bible was the most commonly owned book at home, where it served as a constant reference for model behavior.
