Description: Chinese export porcelain shallow, circular soup plate with concave everted rim decorated with a series of floral, dotted, and starred borders, made for the American market. Mythological and religious scenes, typical of many wares made for the European market, do not often appear on wares made for America. More popular were small vignettes of local landscapes, often based on print sources from contemporary periodicals (this particular source is unidentified). The center well has a circular view in sepia of a large country house in landscape setting with a terraced ground and wide path in front of the house, tall trees, and a flower garden in the foreground, all encircled by blue and gilt saw-tooth band with a floral border. The gold star motif over a blue border on the rim was a standard design of the 1790's; the well edge has a narrow blue and gilt floral band.
