Description:
Shell-edge decorated pearlware was one of the most popular tablewares for the American market in the early 19th century. It is found in archaeological sites everywhere along the eastern seaboard and elsewhere. Oval press molded platter in lead-glazed refined white earthenware (pearlware), shell edge molded rim with slightly scalloped edge, straight shell lines with an intermitant bud, bouge of platter is cupped, center of platter is a large shallow oval shape; rim is decorated in underglaze blue. No mark on reverse. Condition: Good with some very small areas of staining where glaze has crazed.
