Label Text:
This delicate engraving began Lucas van Leyden’s series of fourteen prints depicting The Passion. Lucas arranged Christ and the twelve Apostles into a small format by using a relatively steep perspective. The majority of the figures sits around a small table, although Lucas opened the line of sight by positioning two Apostles pouring wine at the foreground. Lucas’s finely wrought engraved line created his trademark pale tonality, apparent here.
