This photograph album was puchased from the Macbeth Gallery in New York. It includes a large collection of mid-19th century autographs, including those of supreme court justices, artists, authors, poets, composers, musicians and political figures. It also contains a group of fin small paintings and drawings by Martin Johnson Heade, Arthur Parton, Kruseman van Elten, J.G. Brown, George Herbert McCord, Archibald Cary Smith, Julian O. Davidson, and John L. Fitch. Of special interest are two letters from Heade's longtime friend, Frederic Edwin Church as well as others written by Rembrandt Peale, Asher B. Durand and A.H. Wyant. Doctor DuBois, the owner of the scrapbook, has lived in New York, Vermont and Florida.
