Description:
On body: Hygeia and seated Asclepius. Copy of 1808 design executed in plaster by Bertel Thorvaldsen (Danish, 1770-1844) while in Rome. Design executed in 1825 as marble roundel on facade of Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen. Also reproduced as an engraving by brothers Franz and Johannes Riepenhausen (German, 1786-1831 Franz; 1787-1860 Johannes) between 1808 and 1813 when they were in Rome.
