Description:
Empire style sofa with a straight back and scrolled handholds that are supported on carved water leaf posts. The sofa stands on two spiral-turned front legs and two plain and curved rear legs, each with castors. The upholstery is replaced. The sofa has a history of ownership in the Hawks Family of Deerfield, Massachusetts. The overall form of the sofa is similiar to another sofa in Historic Deerfield's collection (accession number: 76.283), which has a history of ownership in the family of Asa Stebbins Jr. (1800-1864) of Deerfield, Massachusetts.
