Evening coat worn by Helen Geier Flynt (1895-1986). Flynt, along with her husband Henry N. Flynt (1893-1970) founded Heritage Foundation, later Historic Deerfield, in 1952. The black velvet of the coat is trimmed with a colorful metallic and silk(?) trim featuring small flowers. The coat is cut straight and is just 3/4 length. Two labels inside the garment suggest that it was made by a B. Cohen, an in-house designer for the New York department store Bonwit Teller.
