Description:
Long outer coat worn by Helen Geier Flynt (1895-1986) during the late 1940s or early 1950s. Helen, along with her husband Henry N. Flynt (1893-1970) founded the Heritage Foundation, later Historic Deerfield, in 1952. The coat is made from a reddish-pink napped wool, and is constructed with half-raglan sleeves. The coat's label is no longer extant, but the evidence of its size and placement at the inside back of the garment suggests that it came from Frederick’s, a women's specialty store with locations in Montclair and Spring Lake, New Jersey. Helen Flynt purchased many items from the latter location, as it was near the couple's summer home in Bay Head. The shop carried better ready-to-wear garments, made some custom garments, and also imported items from abroad.
