Description:
Embroidered wool jacket worn by Helen Geier Flynt (1895-1986) during the late 1940s or very early 1950s. Helen, along with her husband Henry N. Flynt (1893-1970), founded the Heritage Foundation, later Historic Deerfield, in 1952. The body of the jacket is made from an orange-red, twill-woven wool. The high lapels and turned back cuffs are embellished with black velvet (probably silk) and black beaded trim. A label on the inside lining, “Milgrim,” reveals the coat was made by better ready-to-wear manufacturer Sally Milgrim. This jacket would have been worn by Helen as part of an evening suit; the skirt is no longer extant.
