Description:
Outdoor coat with detachable hood worn by Helen Geier Flynt (1895-1986) during the late 1940s. Helen, along with her husband Henry N. Flynt (1893-1970), founded the Heritage Foundation, later Historic Deerfield, in 1952. Although the label is no longer extant, the garment may have come from Frederick's, a women's specialty clothing store with locations in Montclair and Spring Lake, New Jersey. Helen Flynt purchased many items from the latter location, as it was near the couple's summer home in Bay Head. The shop carried better ready-to-wear garments, made some custom garments, and also imported items from abroad.
