Description:
According to the Records of the 2nd Congregational Church in Deerfield (South Deerfield), on July 17th 1818, Dennis Arms and John Anderson were appointed a Committee to procure furniture for the Communion Table. This Committee was instructed to prepare a subscription paper to raise money to pay for sd [said] furniture." Tall, cast pewter flagon used to hold and dispense the communion wine into cups, composed of a vase-shaped finial topping the lid, stepped dome lid, hinged thumbpiece, double curved s-shape handle attached to lower side of body, tapered cylindrical body with attached snip spout, interior of flagon has drilled pierced holes in spout, mid-band around lower belly, and molded, stepped flaring foot, stamped on the underside of the base, "TD&SB" incuse mark in a rectangle for Thomas Danforth and Sherman Boardman, as well as "T.D. BOARDMAN" double marked and offset slightly, "X" and "HARTFORD" in a serrated rectangle. Condition: good overall, dent on side of flagon.
