Description:
Leila Usher was born in Onalaska, Wisconsin in 1859, and died in New York, New York in 1955. Marble tondo depicting C. Alice Baker (1833-1909), by Leila Usher. Baker is depicted in profile with her hair pinned on her head, wearing a coat with a thick fur collar. Example of the influence of the Ecole des Beaux Arts sculptural tradition in the Arts & Crafts movement in Deerfield. See also 69.1310 and 69.1450.
