Description:
Square casket-shaped sewing basket with pine board bottom and lid, the sides and lid are woven with a variety of different materials - thinner and wider woven bands of sea grass or willow, the lid opens by means of an attached ring handle which is covered with weaving, the interior appears not to have suffered any light damage and the wider woven strips are rather pink in color, interior at one time probably lined with silk, bottom of pine board inscribed in pencil, "Deerfield/ Sept 11./ 1903" and a paper label reads, "4067" and some other pencil marks read: "78/357" Probably owned at some time in Deerfield, Massachusetts - although it could possibly be another Deerfield such as New Hampshire, Florida, Illinois, etc..
