Description: One of two silver tablespoons (see HD 2009.26.9) with a pointed oval bowl, small rounded shoulders; and slightly upturned fiddle-end handle with a short mid-rib, which is marked "J.H. MORSE" for James H. Morse (b.1829) and "PURE COIN" on the reverse of the handle, and engraved "LLB" in script on the handle. These spoons are part of a collection of silver spoons from the Viola Wilby estate. This spoon has an attached paper tag label which reads in ink, "Laura Lee Bakerly / (1835-1913) / m. Edward M. Wells / son of Joel B. Wells" and "12" in a circle. In 1860, Laura Lee Bakerly (1835-1913) married Edward M. Wells (b.1829), the son of Joel B. Wells (1795-1841) and Sarah Merritt Wells (b.1796) of Deerfield. James Harvey Morse apprenticed with his father James Morse (1784-1828) about 1843, and worked as a silversmith and engraver in Westfield, Massachusetts, from c.1849-1865.
