Description:
Oval-shaped photograph of Mary Houghton Sawyer of St. Albans, Vermont. Her photograph has a paper mat impressed like leather with two water stains at the base. The image is of an old woman with white and grey ringlets curls wearing a black jacket with a white eyelet shirt and a micromosaic brooch at her neck. Mary Sawyer and and her brother, Frank Houghton Sawyer (see HD 2008.31.1), were the children of Abel Houghton and Emilia Stebbins Houghton, granddaughter of Asa Stebbins of Deerfield, Massachusetts. The handwritten inscription on back reads: "My great Aunt Mary Houghton Sawyer / St. Albans / VT / daughter of Emilia Stebbins / and Abel Houghton / granddaughter of Asa Stebbins / never married (crossed out) no children." The paper frame of photograph is impressed "Fitzgerald / St. Albans, VT." Dimensions of photo itself: 5" x 3 1/2".
