Description:
Powder horn inscribed “JABEZ / ARNOLD". Jabez Arnold of Haddam, CT served as a private in the 2nd Connecticut Regiment from May 5 to December 18, 1775. This company marched to Boston and took up quarters in Roxburty. This horn is similar in format to a number of other Siege of Boston examples. The name, date and other inscriptions are in rectangular cartouches set next one another at 45 degree angles. Altough the calligraphy here is mediocre, it is legible. However, the view of Boston and environs is graphically portrayed and the buildings are engraved with great attention to detail.
