Description:
Powder horn inscribed: “JONATHAN / GOFF HIS HORN MADE AT / ROXBURY OCT [illegible] AD 1775.” Like many Siege of Boston horns, this fine example depicts detailed views of the town along with neighboring Charlestown and Roxbury where the owner and carver were stationed. In this instance, the sparseness of the composition enhances the clarity and beauty of the horn. Jonathan Goff was from the Middletown, Connecticut, area and served for the duration of the war.
