Description:
This side chair features a crest rail shaped with adorsed cyma curves and molded edges typical of a large group of chairs probably made in Deerfield by turner Zadock King (1725-1769) or his brother, Parmenus King (1713-1800). The rear stiles of these chairs feature one of several finial variations including the round squat element on this example. the stretchers are often painted black, most have backs that are set with turned banisters with their flat surfaces facing the rear. This example is significant because it is a variation of the form, featuring molded slats rather than turned banisters in the back.
