Description:
Side chair with a banister back side originally painted black with a rush seat, which is from the Deerfield area and purportedly descended in the Ashley and Stebbins families. This type of Deerfield area side chairs have broad scrolled crestings, distinctive acorn-like finials, reversed banisters on the back, and collar-and-urn turnings on the front; this one also has a bowed bottom rail. Several inches have been lost from the base.
