Description:
Reverse painting on glass inset into a wide wooden frame with black painted reserves bordered by applied wooden ribbon trim. Inscription on back, in ink: "This checker-board formerly belonged to Henry Childs born 1785 died 1869./HE lived at (Wapping) Deerfield Mass + was known as "Dr. Henry." This board/ was given to his grandson Charles Henry Stebbins born 1859 - d. 1913."
