Description:
Rare survival of scored sheathing to imitate the more refined appearance of clapboarding.
Weathered pine exterior sheathing with feathered edges and one feathered end. Other end is roughly cut (late 18th century) when a larger window was installed. Board scored with a beveled recess horizontally with the grain to give the impression ot two narrower clapboard or weather boards.
Provenance: Nims House, north side of main house (immediately to right of east window sill, 2nd floor), Deerfield, Massachusetts, Lot 28.
