Label Text: This image was published "sur blanc" in the journal, "La Caricature" no .235 (pl. 489). Louis Philippe has the deposed Charles X under one paw and a peasant wearing a tri-colour threatened with the other. Theirs is caricatured as a bestial rat. The Coq of France is dead and in front of it sits a beggar's bowl filled with money, perhaps alluding to the money Thiers and Louis-Philippe tried to raise to repay American for shipping losses sustained in the Napoleonic Wars.
