Description:
Silver spoon with a downturned pointed-end handle with bright-cut decoration and pointed oval bowl, which is marked "I . W" incuse attributed to James Ward (1795-1805), and engraved with the initials "MC" in foliate script in a bright-cut oval on the front of the handle. Flynt and Fales also show a simiiar unidientified mark (p. 365). The son of silversmith Bilious Ward (1729-1777), James Ward worked in Hartford in various partnerships from about 1790-1830.
