Description:
Plate, attributed to William Griffith’s Lambeth High Street Pottery (1732-1793), London, England, c. 1745-1750; tin-glazed earthenware (delftware) with cobalt blue decoration, the rim is decorated with a powdered blue ground with eight reserves on rim, the reserves are of different shapes including hexagons and a flower outline with alternating birds and leaves; the central design is within an octagonal border and depicts a chinoiserie scene of two Chinese men possibly officials at a table with two groups of small dots, the pair are outdoors, with a fence, shrubs, and a tree in the background; the plate has a painted red enamel rim, and underrim markings in cobalt blue of three sprigs or vines, attached is a dealer label for "Mark and Marjorie Allen Antiques" on the base. Condition: possible restoration on upper left hand side of rim, there is a dull, matte area
