The anthropomorphic mythical being depicted on this vessel has the body of a snake, symbolic of crop protection and rebirth. The bowl exhibits a variety of uncommon features, including the horizontal orientation of the creature’s face and the painting of both teeth and tongue on a single figure. The face defies easy identification, although it most closely resembles that of a cat or monkey.
